Designing Spaces That Breathe

Our Guide to Intentional Living

A bit of a philisophical one today, but the why behind furniture design is a lot more than just designing and selling so let us share a bit of our thought process...

Let's get a little deep in this blog.

We’ve always believed that a home should do more than just look good — it should feel good. The kind of good that creeps in slowly, quietly, every time you walk through the door and exhale. That’s the power of intentional living, and it’s at the heart of everything we create.

But let’s be honest — we didn’t always get it right. Like most of us, we’ve lived in homes that felt chaotic, overdesigned, or cluttered with things we didn’t really need. The turning point came when we started asking better questions about what we can do with our homes and how much do they actually impact our day to day lives?

What if less really is more? What if our furniture didn’t just fill a space, but gave it room to breathe? How can we make this happen and what is intentional living?

Intentional living is about making choices that align with what matters to you. It’s the opposite of living on autopilot. In design, it means filling your home with things that serve a real purpose — not just because they looked good in a showroom or got a thousand likes on Instagram.

This idea has gained traction for a reason. In a time when life feels increasingly busy, fast, and noisy, there’s a quiet appeal to slowing down and being more considered with how we live. People are craving homes that feel like a reset — not another source of overwhelm.

Intentional living doesn’t mean stripping everything back to cold minimalism. It means being thoughtful. Choosing fewer, better things. Creating space — not just physically, but mentally. And recognising that how we live shapes how we feel.

For many, it’s a small rebellion against the idea that more is always better.

We’ve all seen the Pinterest-perfect homes: floor-to-ceiling shelving, over-styled corners, and furniture that looks amazing — but leaves no space for life to actually happen.

Intentional interiors reject that pressure. They invite you to choose pieces that adapt to your life, not the other way around. That’s why we prioritise modular storage and versatile layouts in our collections — furniture that can grow with you, move with you, and work hard without showing off.

One of our favourite expressions of this philosophy is the Orimba Bookcase. It started as a sketch for a client who needed flexibility but didn’t want to compromise on design. What emerged was something better than we expected — a modular shelving system that felt personal, functional, and warm.

Today, it’s one of our most loved pieces — and for good reason. You can style it pretty much however you want, use it in a lounge, hallway, or even as a room divider. It’s proof that minimalist furniture doesn’t have to be cold or characterless. It just needs to be smart. It's been built to enhance you and your space, not to take center stage.

Every piece we make at NACO Design is built with care, and often, restraint. We’re not here to chase trends or fill space for the sake of it. We’re here to help you create a home that makes space — for calm, for creativity, for connection.

Whether you're renovating a room or simply rethinking what belongs in your space, start with this:

What brings clarity, not clutter? What supports the life you want to live — today and in ten years?

That’s intentional living. And we’re here for it.
